Iraq’s Mesopotamian Marshes are considered to be the original Garden of Eden, a wildlife jewel, where man and nature thrived for 5,000 years. In the 1990s, Saddam Hussein drained the marshes, destroying thousands of people’s homes and those of millions of birds. Donning his body armour, filmmaker David Johnson with camerman Steve Foote travels to the marshes to meet Dr Azzam Alwash, the man at the centre of the largest habitat recreation project in the world.
